The main responsibilities include preparing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to service standards and responding promptly to guests’ needs. The bartender is also expected to take food and beverage orders, use suggestive selling techniques, and complete opening duties such as checking stock levels. Additionally, they must set up the bar, ensure cleanliness, and manage the point-of-sale system for orders and payments.

Setting up the bar involves preparing all condiments such as garnishes and juices, preparing fresh fruit garnishes, and ensuring a sufficient supply of flatware, glassware, and chinaware. The bartender also sets the bar according to service standards and arranges supplies and equipment for the shift.

The position requires the bartender to be TIPS certified, which is a certification for responsible alcohol service, and also to have Food Safety certification. These certifications ensure the bartender can serve alcohol responsibly and maintain proper food safety standards.

The bartender records guest orders into the point-of-sale system and processes payments following established service procedures. They are responsible for adhering to payment, cash handling, and credit policies to ensure transactions are accurate and secure.

The bartender must ensure the cleanliness and condition of their assigned station and service areas, including cleaning and wiping down the bar immediately after guests depart. They also need to monitor sanitation standards and follow safety procedures to maintain a safe environment for both guests and staff.

The bartender anticipates guests’ needs, responds promptly, and makes recommendations based on their preferences. They also serve beverages and food in accordance with service standards, which helps ensure a positive experience for the guests.

Closing duties include completing reports, cleaning the bar area, removing soiled wares, and ensuring the station is organized and ready for the next shift. The bartender reports to the supervisor or manager on duty before leaving.
