Staff members in this role will manage titratable drips, chest tubes, tracheostomies, complex wound care, post-bariatric procedures, high oxygen delivery systems, and provide end-of-life care.

The 5 West unit is known as the ‘5 West Wolfpack’ because of its outstanding teamwork, and it features a centralized nursing station that fosters camaraderie, learning, and growth among staff members.

New staff members receive in-depth orientation, goal planning, and regular progress meetings, including check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days after orientation to support their professional development.

The unit features a Zen room that includes a massage chair, adult coloring books, and other materials designed to help staff reset their mindset and manage stress.

In January 2025, the 5 West unit will transition to a team-based care delivery model, which involves licensed and unlicensed healthcare professionals working together to care for a group of patients.

The team-based care model allows nurses to work at the top of their scope and effectively utilize each team member’s strengths, which can improve patient care and staff collaboration.
