I’m Ms. Smith, currently looking for a job. I’d like to ask Dr. Job about the Friction Stir Welding Technician (Tank Weldment) position at SpaceX.
What does a Friction Stir Welding Technician do at SpaceX?
Well, as a Friction Stir Welding Technician, you’ll be setting up and operating large machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles. You’ll also be doing some precision blending with hand tools to prep metallic surfaces for welding and performing maintenance on complex machines. It’s a hands-on role that’s super important for the manufacturing process!
What kind of experience do I need for this job?
You’ll need at least a high school diploma or equivalent, plus a year of experience in machining, welding, or metal fabrication. If you’ve got more experience, like three years in the industry, especially in aerospace, that’s even better!
What are the working hours like for this position?
The shifts are a bit unique! You could be working Monday to Friday from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, or a longer shift from Friday to Monday, 4:30 AM to 4:30 PM. You’ll also need to be open to working overtime and weekends when needed.
Is there any physical requirement for this job?
Yes, it’s a pretty hands-on position. You’ll need to be comfortable standing for up to four hours at a time, lifting at least 25 lbs. unassisted, and working in tight spaces. So, being physically fit is definitely a plus!
What’s the pay like for this role?
The pay varies depending on your level of experience. For a Level 1 Technician, it’s between $23.00 and $27.00 an hour, and it goes up to $31.00 to $38.00 an hour for a Level 3 Technician. Plus, there are benefits like medical coverage and stock options, which is pretty cool!
Thank you, Dr. Job. I will review the details.
