A Clinical Dietitian will serve as the medical nutrition expert, applying evidence-based nutrition guidelines for all patients, including those with complex needs, and coordinating nutritional care with other healthcare providers and the community.
What are the basic qualifications needed for this role?
To qualify, you need to be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or a Registered Dietitian (RD) registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. There are exceptions for certain levels if you don’t have the RDN/RD credential yet.
What if someone has a degree but isn’t a credentialed Dietitian?
Non-credentialed Dietitians can be appointed temporarily for up to one year at the GS-07 or GS-09 level, but they need to meet specific educational requirements and can’t be promoted until they obtain their RDN credential.
