The main responsibilities of a PHIRST Nurse include providing home health and infusion care without following a specific case load. This involves supporting same-day start of care visits, skilled nursing visits at home, peripheral IV insertions, and administering urgent hydration or Solumedrol infusions.

For home health-focused visits, the required competencies include conducting Oasis start of care assessments with office support, providing wound care, managing wound vacs, and performing Foley catheter irrigations. Additionally, the nurse will handle pleurex and surgical drains, PEG tubes, and ostomies in specific circumstances.

The infusion-focused competencies expected from this role include care for PICC lines, ports, and midlines, as well as performing PICC and midline removals. The nurse will also be responsible for administering IV antibiotics.
