The primary role of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in this position is to perform routine nursing assistant duties as part of the treatment team to maintain the well-being of patients and ensure the integrity of the program. This includes monitoring patient management and treatment, as well as maintaining a safe environment for patients.

CNAs are responsible for checking vital signs, charting routine information such as vital signs and daily activities, and reporting any changes observed in patient conditions or behaviors. They also assist with patient orientation, admission, transfer, and discharge processes.

CNAs support patient participation by interacting with patients, providing educational sessions or group activities, and encouraging their engagement in the treatment process. They also assist with behavioral assessments and report any behavioral changes.

CNAs must observe universal precautions, including the correct handling of blood-borne pathogens, proper storage of lab specimens, and safe disposal of infectious wastes. They are also trained to remain calm during their duties and to recognize symptoms related to chemical dependency and detoxification.

CNAs are responsible for documenting patient treatment progress accurately and reporting any changes in patient behavior or condition. They also record vital signs and other routine information in patient charts and ensure all forms are properly identified and organized.

CNAs must be able to identify crises and demonstrate appropriate intervention techniques, including managing situations like AMA (Against Medical Advice), behavioral issues, suicide threats, and contraband on the unit. They are trained to recognize symptoms associated with chemical dependency and detoxification.

CNAs work as members of the treatment team by following the directions of nursing personnel and physicians, maintaining professional boundaries, and treating patients with respect, care, and concern. They also maintain cultural sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.

CNAs may provide educational sessions or facilitate educational groups for patients, and they are involved in assessing and reporting behavioral changes. They also make presentations and support the overall treatment process.

CNAs need to remain calm while performing their duties, demonstrate professionalism, and maintain a caring attitude towards patients. They must also be able to recognize their own biases and work effectively within diverse populations.
